Flexible workIcon Plus

We have a formal policy for discussing flexible working at the interview stage

Flexible work arrangements may include:

  • Part-time employment (working fewer days or shorter hours);
  • Job-sharing;
  • Flexible working hours (change to start/finish time);
  • Working from a remote location such as an alternative Anglo-American place of work, or own permanent residential address;
  • Flexible return from parental leave;
  • Compressed hours (working longer hours over fewer days) where this fits with the business requirements in the given geographical location; or
  • Fly in Fly out or Drive in Drive out options.
Leave EntitlementsIcon Plus

We have various types of leave available.

  • Annual leave is provided to enable time for rest and recovery away from the workplace. The number of days of annual leave available depends on your work location and roster (ranges from four to six weeks per annum).Your actual annual leave entitlement is specified in your contract of employment or Enterprise Agreement. Purchasing of additional leave and cashing out of accrued annual leave.

  • Personal/carer’s leave is a minimum 15 days per annum (depending on your contract of employment or Enterprise Agreement) paid personal/ carer’s leave is available when you are absent due to personal illness or injury, or to care for an immediate family member who is ill, injured or has an unexpected emergency.

  • Parental leave is currently available to eligible employees who are to become parents due to the birth of a child or the successful adoption of a child under the age of 16. Parental leave benefits available to eligible employees involve a mix of paid and unpaid leave. Anglo American currently provides 20 weeks paid primary parental leave or adoption leave, which can be taken at 50% payment rate. Anglo American also currently offers 4 weeks paid secondary parental leave with the option to take it within the 12 months after the baby is born. We also offer third trimester paid car parking for pregnant mothers (in Brisbane CBD). Anglo American will continue to pay Superannuation for any periods of unpaid leave.

  • Long-service leave is paid leave after a specific length of service is achieved with one employer. Different laws regarding long-service leave apply depending on your work location.

  • Study leave If you are an approved student under the Study Assistance Policy, you may apply for two days paid study leave within each academic course in order to prepare for examinations and complete assignments.

  • To support you in giving back to your community, Anglo American offers community services leave to employees volunteering their time during emergencies, charity events or jury duty.
WellbeingIcon Plus

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free, confidential and independent counselling service that provides short-term assistance to employees with personal and work-related problems that may influence your wellbeing and work performance. They specialise in counselling services for mining workers and their families, including helping with relationship and family issues, work stress, and mental health.

Upskilling our employees to support fellow colleagues in a time of need is in line with the Anglo American values. Mental health first aid, First Aid and CPR training is delivered both regionally and in the Brisbane Corporate Office.

Mental health first aid training offers a pathway to become an accredited First Aiders.
