Working for Anglo American

A focus on safety

Our responsibility

Safety and health

Ensuring employees and contractors remain safe at work is our number one priority. We are committed to implementing safety systems and operating in a way that promotes safe behaviours, moving toward an overall objective of zero harm.

We believe our people are our business and all employees and contractors should be able to return home fit and well at the end of each shift. To us, one injury is one too many and we strive for continuous safety improvement. Our approach to safety is detailed in our Safety and Occupational Health policy.

We are committed to protecting the natural environment wherever we operate. Land, biodiversity and water resources are fundamental to a sustainable future. Our operational strategies are built around the efficient use of energy and natural resources, and minimising waste. Our operations strive to minimise any negative effects. Through our rehabilitation plan, we're spending around $12 million a year to rehabilitate more than 600 hectares at our open cut operations for the next 10 years.

Our Environmental Management System underpins our activities at all sites and is certified to the International Standard (ISO14001). Our Environmental Management System provides a robust framework to identify potential environmental risks and allows us to implement the necessary control measures minimising environmental harm.

We want to make lasting, positive and meaningful contributions to the communities associated with our operations. We recognise the importance of partnering with local communities and government to ensure our operations are developed in a responsible and sustainable way, taking into consideration the priorities and needs of our neighbours. Our licence to operate depends on it.

Our Code of Conduct aims to be a single point of reference for everyone associated with the Anglo American Group – as well as the departure point for a fuller understanding of our ethical policies and procedures.

It sets out ‘how’ we must all behave in reinforcing our values, and ‘what’ we should be doing to protect Anglo American’s good name, and to make a positive difference.
