Anglo American’s community grants supporting thriving communities

05 May, 2022

Anglo American’s 2022 Community Grants Program is now open, with more than $800,000 available for Central Queensland non-profit organisations.

This year, the funding pool has been increased by $200,000 to include support for larger socio-economic development (SED) projects.*

Chief Executive Officer of Anglo American’s Metallurgical Coal business, Tyler Mitchelson, said the annual Community Grants Program helped to build better community outcomes by sharing the benefits of mining.

“As one of Central Queensland’s major employers, we understand the importance of being part of the communities where we operate, and ensuring we invest in them,” Mr Mitchelson said.

"A central pillar in our Sustainable Mining Plan** is to support thriving communities with better health, education and employment outcomes, and we are committed to making that happen.

“Our dedicated team of community-based social performance specialists work closely with our community stakeholders in Moranbah, Middlemount, Moura, Theodore and Banana to help deliver sustainable development initiatives which meet the needs of the communities.”

Last year the Community Grants Program assisted more than 60 organisations with $600,000 in funding including $35,000 for the Moranbah State School Wellbeing and Resilience Program to upgrade the workshop and provide new materials and toolkits for the students.
