Lacey’s billboard reminds drivers about the Fatal Five

23 September, 2021

Motorists travelling on the Peak Downs Highway from Moranbah to Mackay will see a new Fatal Five billboard near Coppabella as part of a community-led safety campaign to reduce road accidents and fatalities in the Isaac Region.

Anglo American funded the initiative after identifying actions to address a community need through participation in the Road Safe Moranbah group*.

Anglo American’s Grosvenor Mine General Manager, Damien Wynn said the initiative was about improving the awareness of road safety in Moranbah and surrounding communities.

"We’re pleased to deliver this billboard in support of the broader road safety campaign and hope it will resonate with our community and our workforce,” Mr Wynn said.

“The signage complements the recent mobile billboard campaign which now has student artwork on the back of local Greyhound Resources buses.”

Senior Sergeant Adam Dyer from Moranbah Police said the billboard would raise awareness about the Fatal Five.

“When it comes to road safety, literally every decision you make behind the wheel counts and this initiative is an ongoing reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” Senior Sergeant Dyer said.

The billboard artwork was sourced through a drawing competition held by Moranbah radio station 4RFM, which challenged students from six Isaac Region primary schools to create illustrations that promoted safe driving behaviour.

Moranbah State School student, Lacey Perks submitted the winning artwork, with elements of her design chosen to feature on the billboard.

Lacey hopes her artwork will inspire drivers to change their attitude to road safety, and think twice before taking any risks on the road.
