Moranbah Kart Club officially launched their new ‘Kart Together’ program yesterday with the support of Anglo American, providing dedicated karting sessions and vehicles for children with disabilities and their families.
The program will include regular closed sessions at the track for children with disabilities and their families, in new two-seater karts purchased specifically for the program. The karts allow those with disabilities to be driven around the track and feature quieter engines for riders who are sensitive to loud noise or require a lower sensory experience.
Moranbah Kart Club President Dave Kent said he was extremely proud to be launching the program, which aimed to provide all local families with regular access to a fun, affordable and inclusive activity.
“I always loved riding in karts when I was young, and I want to share that experience with other members of our community too,” Mr Kent said.
“I know it can be difficult for families of special needs children to find something they can all enjoy together, which is why we’ve been working with other members of our community to develop this program.
“Kart Together will ensure everyone in our community can be included and welcome at the Moranbah Kart Club.
“I would like to thank Anglo American for their support of the program, which has included the donation of $15,000 for the purchase of a two-seated go-kart for the program,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Anglo American’s Metallurgical Coal business, Tyler Mitchelson, said the donation was made as part of Anglo American’s social and community investment program.
“At Anglo American, we believe in helping to build thriving and inclusive communities,” Mr Mitchelson said.
“Making sure there is a place for everyone to feel welcome – regardless of their different abilities – is something we’re very passionate about. I offer my sincere congratulations to the Moranbah Kart Club for their work in developing and delivering this new program.
“Anglo American is very proud to be part of the ‘support crew’ for this fantastic community initiative,” he said.
Mr Kent also extended his thanks to Adept Contractors, Mills Painting Contractors and Marlee Constructions for their support of the club and facility upgrades.
In Australia, Anglo American has five metallurgical coal mines in the Bowen Basin, including two near Middlemount, two near Moranbah and one near Moura.
