Statement regarding female facilities audit

07 May, 2019

Earlier this year, Anglo American undertook an audit of female equipment and facilities across our mine sites to better understand where we need to make improvements.

Any suggestion this is about removing breaks is completely wrong.

We’re committed to improving the gender balance across our business and this survey is just one of many strategies we’re implementing to improve inclusion at our sites and encourage more women to join the industry.

The survey was voluntary and completely anonymous. It asked a broad range of questions around health and wellbeing, personal protective equipment, our site facilities and how well they meet the needs of our female employees.

The survey had a positive response, with almost 200 women from across all mine sites taking part.

It’s important to us that all employees feel included and respected when they come to work, and getting the basics right around our facilities is a key part of that. Improvements are already being made as a direct result of the audit.

Additional information around the survey was provided to the CFMEU in March, so attempts to misconstrue the intent of the survey are extremely disappointing.

Additional information:

  • A third-party specialist in inclusion and diversity was engaged to develop and manage the survey responses, ensuring complete anonymity.
  • 193 responses were received across Anglo American’s five mine sites: Moranbah North, Grosvenor, Capcoal Open Cut, Grasstree and Dawson.
