General Manager of Moranbah North, Paul Stephan, said the underground metallurgical coal mine would take on six new apprentices in 2020, in the areas of electrical and mechanical trade.
Successful applicants to the program will receive a four-year contract including on-the-job training rotating though different operational areas of the mine as well as classroom-based training.
“This program is a fantastic opportunity for school leavers and mature aged candidates to gain a trade qualification and build a fulfilling career in the mining industry,” Mr Stephan said.
“At Anglo American, we have a proud history of supporting skills development across the region and creating entry-level employment opportunities in the mining industry.
“Our 2020 Apprenticeship Program is clear demonstration of our commitment to regional employment, along with our Junior Miners Program, Balancing the Team female trainee program and our school-based apprenticeships program, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
“Moranbah North has an inclusive culture, and a supportive environment that embraces innovation and technology. I encourage anyone interested in learning more about the program to come along to one of our information sessions and speak to some of our team members. *
“We’ll also be visiting local high schools to share information about the program, including Moranbah State High School, Clermont State High School and Capella State High School,” he said.
Mr Stephan said the program opening followed a recent site visit from 23 local year 10 students. **
“We were very pleased to host a group of high school students who are currently completing their ‘Trade Readiness Program’ at Moranbah State High School recently for a tour of Moranbah North’s facilities.
“We appreciate the opportunity to share what we do and find students often come away with a much stronger understanding of the variety of career paths that are available in the mining industry.
“At Moranbah North, we employ a wide range of professionals in areas like engineering, safety, environment, finance, IT, geology and human resources, in addition to more traditional trade-based roles and coal mine workers. For those who are interested, the mining industry can provide an interesting and fulfilling career.”
