At the ceremony in Sydney on 26 October, Moranbah North was also recognised as 2017 Coal Mine of the Year, an award previously won by the site in 2009, 2013 and 2015.

Anglo American Chief Executive Officer, David Diamond, said both awards reflect the team’s commitment to continuous improvement.

“This is a testament to Moranbah North’s outstanding efforts in safety, production, costs, efficiencies, innovation and contribution to the community,” Mr Diamond said.

“Moranbah North is also on track to deliver record production targets in 2017, which they’ve done while maintaining a strong safety record; a truly remarkable effort.”

“We are extremely proud to receive these awards and for Moranbah North’s achievements to be recognised across our industry.”

Moranbah North General Manager, Craig Manz, attributed success to the determination and commitment of the entire Moranbah North team, which has developed a high performance culture.

“Our team has worked together to embrace technology and improve productivity, without compromising the health and safety of our people,” Mr Manz said.

“We continue to develop and implement innovative initiatives that proactively improve the way we work, from our longwall dust gutter system, to live strata defect awareness and enhancing communication using a tablet to provide a visual, real-time solution.”

“This outstanding achievement could not have been accomplished without everyone’s combined contribution and I am extremely proud of their dedication, drive and determination towards making Moranbah North a success.”

Anglo American’s Moranbah North operation is located in Queensland’s northern Bowen Basin, and produces the highest quality hard coking coal using the longwall mining process.
