Anglo American supports childcare fundraising effort

27 April, 2015

Anglo American’s Moranbah North mine has strengthened its commitment to supporting the local community by partnering with several local businesses to host an 80s inspired evening of entertainment on 28 March to raise much needed funds for a local day care centre.

Volunteers from Moranbah North turned back the clock and turned up the beat at the event, which raised $3500 to support the Simply Sunshine Day Care Centre.

Anglo American Training Superintendent Mick Driscoll hosted the event and Human Resources Coordinator Kristi Vasella took on the role of official trivia master.

Anglo American Human Resources Superintendent Kaicee Lahey, Facilities Management Superintendent Jacqui Wakerley and Reliability Engineer Lance Martens also helped organise the very successful event.

Ms Lahey said the fundraising night formed part of Moranbah North’s ongoing support of important community groups and local business.

“We recognise the value of high community spirit, and events like these are a great way to improve community morale, particularly during tough times,” Ms Lahey said.

“Anglo American cares about the Moranbah community and the day care centre is an important local business providing a service to many families in our community, including our employees.

“We are proud to support the Simple Sunshine Day Care Centre and thank the community for their generous support of the event.”

Anglo American is a global and diversified mining business that provides the raw materials essential for economic development and modern life. Our people are at the heart of our business. It is our people who use the latest technologies to find new resources, plan and build our mines and who mine, process and move and market our products – from bulk commodities and base metals to precious metals and diamonds (through De Beers) – to our customers around the world. Our diversified portfolio of products spans the economic development cycle and, as a responsible miner, we are the custodians of precious resources. We work together with our key partners and stakeholders to unlock the long-term value that those resources represent for our shareholders, but also for the communities and countries in which we operate – creating sustainable value and making a real difference. Our mining operations, growth projects and exploration and marketing activities extend across southern Africa, South America, Australia, North America, Asia and Europe.
