On Monday 2 March Anglo American’s Capcoal operations welcomed five new apprentices to site following a competitive recruitment process held in Middlemount earlier this year.
Diesel Fitter apprentices Nathaniel Benjamin-Beer, Wickus Coetzee, Nick Lohrey and Stephen Norman and Electrician apprentice Charles Mayne have all launched their careers with Anglo American after competing with more than 1000 applicants for the positions.
Anglo American Human Resource Officer Charne Kellerman said with such a large number of applications for the apprenticeship positions this year, the candidates were up against tough competition.
"Anglo American’s apprenticeship program promises great opportunities for successful candidates, who get to work on some of the biggest pieces of equipment the industry has to offer," Ms Kellerman said.
"We are very excited to welcome the five apprentices to site and look forward to supporting them throughout their apprenticeships."
Earlier this year Capcoal, in partnership with MIGAS Apprentices, hosted an assessment centre for 21 shortlisted candidates in the Middlemount Community Hall.
All candidates were given the opportunity to impress interviewers and show off their teamwork abilities in interviews and fun activities throughout the day.
The Anglo American apprenticeship program is designed to help apprentices develop technical and leadership skills through on the job training and a tailored development plan.
