Anglo American team brave the shave for cancer research

25 March, 2015

Four Anglo American Dawson team members bravely went under the razer on Friday 13 March for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave, raising more than $6,400 in much-needed funds for blood cancer support and research.

Simon Ponder, Peter Murphy, Kevin Plant, Benjamin Knights had their locks chopped in front of a crowd of supporters at the Moura RSL.

Dawson's Acting Facilities Manager and Community Coordinator Kaitlyn Britton said it was great to see the community get behind the team members who had all volunteered to take part in the shave to help raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation

"The support from the community and Dawson employees has been fantastic and their generosity is much appreciated," Ms Britton said. "Crowd members bid for the chance to shave a team member's head, with the highest bidder paying up to $250 for one haircut.

"Special thanks to the very brave team members who were willing to shave their heads in the name of charity and to our community supporters including Spotless, Ellie from the Beauty Lodge, Biloela Discount Chemist, James Bensley from GDL rural and Anglo American for their support and sponsorship of the event."

The World's Greatest Shave is one of Australia's biggest fundraisers, with money raised going towards research to find better treatments and cures for leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. Funds raised also go towards supporting families when they need it most, providing patients with a free home-away-from-home near hospital during their treatment.
