Children at the Simply Sunshine Childcare Centre will now play and learn in a safer and better equipped environment following the recent upgrade to the centre’s facilities thanks to a $60,000 donation from Anglo American.
In a huge boost for Moranbah families the infrastructure upgrade involved a full renovation of the outdoor play area including new turf, pavers, gardens, decking, educational equipment, a new drainage system to prevent flooding and a new playground.
Simply Sunshine’s Director Amanda Stephan said the renovations had fostered a better learning environment and created a safer centre for both children and staff.
“The families and staff at the centre are delighted to launch the new facilities and we sincerely thank Anglo American for supporting the project,” Ms Stephan said.
“The donation has allowed us to undertake significant improvements to the playground, and the new equipment will make learning and exploring the outdoors even more worthwhile for the children at Simply Sunshine.
“Children love to explore their natural surroundings and providing these key elements extends their development through play by stimulating the children’s senses and encouraging curiosity and imagination, which is imperative for happy, healthy children.”
Moranbah North mine General Manager Craig Manz said Anglo American was proud to support the project, which had significantly improved education and childcare services in Moranbah.
“We are delighted to support the upgrade as part of Anglo American’s Social Investment and Donations Policy, which aims to improve health and education facilities and services in our communities,” Mr Manz said.
“Many of our employees from both Moranbah North and Grosvenor send their children to Simply Sunshine, which provides a critical service to our community, allowing parents to return to work and participate in other community activities.
“Anglo American recognises that one of the major challenges we face attracting new families to town is adequate childcare facilities, so this project has been welcomed.”
Anglo American’s Grosvenor mine General Manager Adam Foulstone said the upgrade to Simply Sunshine had helped create a safer, best-practice child care facility.
“With this donation we’re pleased to be able to help the centre improve the exceptional child care services they already provide our local community,” Mr Foulstone said.
“For Anglo American, safety extends beyond the mine gate, so it was important for us to help Simply Sunshine upgrade its facilities to provide a safe environment for both children and staff and ensure the facilities meet the highest safety and education standards.”
