This week Anglo American was delighted to host an action-packed two-day tour with Brisbane Broncos star Josh McGuire to schools, community groups and rugby league clubs in Moranbah.
Moranbah North General Manager Craig Manz said the tour was part of Anglo American’s Regional Partnership with the Brisbane Broncos and a great opportunity to provide local school students with the chance to be mentored by members of the NRL team.
“We’re delighted to host star player Josh McGuire, and Game Development Team members Paul Dyer and Michael Hancock in Moranbah,” Mr Manz said.
“Our partnership with the Brisbane Broncos reinforces our commitment to supporting the Moranbah community by giving local kids and Broncos fans of all ages the chance to get up close and personal with rugby league legends.”
As part of the tour the Broncos continued their support of grassroots junior rugby league by conducting a skills clinic with the Moranbah Miners Junior Rugby League team at Darryl Bourke Oval. The visit was followed by a community BBQ where members of the public had the opportunity to come and meet the current and former Broncos players.
The Broncos visited Moranbah East State Primary School, Moranbah State School and Moranbah State High School to host motivational talks and Q&A sessions before testing the students’ skills on the field during a series of coaching clinics.
The visit to Moranbah State High School coincided with the school’s leadership week, which provided a great opportunity for the Broncos to pass on important lessons to the departing senior class about leadership, what it takes to succeed after school, goal setting and mental health.
Broncos Game Development Manager Paul Dyer said the Broncos valued the opportunity to visit Moranbah to catch up with junior players thanks to Anglo American.
“The Brisbane Broncos values our regional partnership with Anglo American as it provides us with the opportunity to visit regional communities to meet and mentor junior players and local fans with a genuine passion for our great game,” Mr Dyer said.
“This program is about working with Anglo American to give children access to our players and legends and to build grassroots rugby league, as well as providing tips on how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Mr Manz said the Broncos also made a special visit to Anglo American’s Moranbah North mine, which took out the title of Australian Coal Mine of the Year at the 2015 Australian Mining Prospect Awards last month.
“This was a great opportunity for the Broncos to meet with the Moranbah North workforce and our community to celebrate this significant achievement and the mine’s commitment to excellence in safety and production,” Mr Manz said.
