Old Kayuga Cemetery secrets open to the public during Heritage Week

10 April, 2015

Anglo American is delighted to open up the historic Old Kayuga Cemetery to the public on the Dartbrook mine site in the Hunter Valley as part of Heritage Week, a national celebration of Australia’s unique and shared heritage next weekend.

The Old Kayuga Cemetery and accompanying Riverview House will be open to all on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April, between 10am and 3pm, to showcase the history, character and significance of this site.

Guests will be able to view the restored grounds, attend the book launch of Rob Tickle, a wellrespected local historian with fascinating knowledge of the cemetery, as well as wander through displays in Riverview House which depict early like in the Kayuga Village, Dartbrook and Dartmouth along with historical mining items and photographs.

The Cemetery is the oldest the Upper Hunter Valley having been constructed in 1828. It had 22 gravestones when it was placed under the Heritage Act’s protection with its significance embedded in providing the resting pace for members of the area’s pioneering families.

Please join with us to celebrate our Proud Hunter Valley history.

Access to the Kayuga Cemetery and Riverview House is via the entry to Dartbrook Mine on the New England Highway or via Stair Street, Kayuga.
