With the world’s tennis eyes fixed on Rod Laver Arena for the next two weeks for the staging of the Australian Open it is timely that Anglo American last week donated $4,500 to Muswellbrook’s Olympic Park Tennis Club.
New South Wales Stakeholder Engagement Specialist Matt Frodsham said the funding support would assist the club in completing its court resurfacing project.
“The Olympic Park Tennis Club is very much focused on its junior members and is the only club in the Upper Hunter Valley that offers tennis coaching,” Matt said.
“Anglo American is delighted to support the hard working members of the Olympic Park Tennis Club who have fundraised tirelessly over the past couple of years to make the court resurfacing project a reality.
“This is the kind of community support we hope to continue should the Drayton South project be approved,” he said.
Olympic Park Tennis Club President Tony McTaggart said the Club’s current facilities totalled six synthetic grass courts of which half were in urgent need of replacement.
“Unfortunately the surface on three of our courts has deteriorated to such an extent that they are fast becoming unsafe to play on due to the number of trip hazards, which is a major concern for the 300 people who use our Club’s courts each week,” Tony said.
“However thanks to Anglo American’s donation, work will commence in the coming month on our court resurfacing project which provide a surface that is not only safe but also incredibly enjoyable to play on,” he said.
