This week more than a thousand primary and secondary school students from throughout Central Queensland will temporarily place their academic studies on hold as they get set to learn valuable life skills from some of rugby leagues most celebrated stars.
Anglo American Branding and Events Coordinator, Jackie Noble said the three day visit which commenced yesterday (Tuesday 11 February) would see members of the Brisbane Broncos including co-captain Justin Hodges, principal player Jharal Yow Yeh and Broncos legend Michael Hancock visit schools in Biloela, Moura, Yeppoon, Rockhampton and Gladstone.
“Since the inception of our Regional Partnership with this iconic football club three years ago, Anglo American has partnered with the Brisbane Broncos touring regional Queensland and once again we are delighted to provide Queenslanders with the opportunity to meet and learn from some of their heroes,” she said.
“We value our relationships with schools in our Central Queensland communities, where our Bowen Basin mine employees and their families have made their homes for generations.
“Similarly Anglo American is keen to provide local students with advice on career options after school with our award winning apprentice program, vacation work and graduate program.
“As we progress with plans to develop Callide mine’s Boundary Hill South extension project, we will continue to provide economic stability for our employees, local suppliers and the wider Central Queensland community,” said Jackie.
As part of this visit to Central Queensland, five time grand final winner Michael Hancock together with Brisbane Broncos Game Development Manager Paul Dyer and members of the Game Development Team visited seven high schools in Yeppoon, Rockhampton and Gladstone before being joined later in the week by co-captain Justin Hodges and Jharal Yow Yeh for motivational and skills clinics in Biloela and Moura.
Paul Dyer said the Brisbane Broncos were delighted to continue their partnership with Anglo American which enabled them to visit the club’s many loyal fans.
“Our regional partnership with Anglo American is valued by the Brisbane Broncos as it provides
the opportunity for our players and staff to travel to regional towns, meet our many loyal fans and share with them some of our experiences and football skills,” he said.
Thursday’s sessions in Biloela and Moura will be attended by students from local town primary schools as well as those from the outlying Mt Murchison Thangool, Prospect, Goovigen, Jambin, Baralaba, Bauhinia, Banana and Theodore State Schools.
