This week Anglo American was proud to host another Brisbane Broncos Regional Tour in the Banana Shire region and bring current players and game development team representatives to visit community members across Biloela, Moura, Thangool and Theodore.
Broncos players Jordan Kahu and David Stagg, along with former great Mick Hancock and game development officer Simona Vavega joined Anglo American to visit local schools, local junior football clubs and community groups across the area.
Primary and high schools students had the chance to listen to these elite sportsmen during motivational talks and Q&A sessions before testing their skills on the field through a series of coaching drills.
In addition to visiting specific schools, the players continued their support of grassroots junior rugby league by conducting a skills clinic at Lions Park with the Junior Panthers. A community BBQ followed the clinic for the Biloela community to come and meet the star players.
Anglo American Corporate Communication Manager Jacqui Strambi said Biloela and Moura were home to Anglo American’s Callide and Dawson mine sites and Anglo American was pleased to deliver an action packed tour for the local community as part of their annual Regional Partnership with the Brisbane Broncos.
“Our Regional Tour Program with the Brisbane Broncos allows us to bring the game development team and star players to our proud mining communities, where local kids and Broncos fans of all ages have the chance to get up close and personal with their rugby league heroes,” Jacqui said.
“This is the fourth year in a row Anglo American has been the Brisbane Broncos’ Regional Partner and as a major employer in the region, we are particularly excited to bring members of the much loved team to the Banana Shire to share the benefits of mining with local people.
“It is a great opportunity to stop by and say thank you to the community for all their support,” she said.
A key part of the tour was visits to primary and high schools in Biloela, Moura, Thangool and Theodore, where the Broncos team hosted coaching clinics and spoke to students about the importance of healthy living, goal setting and performing at their peak.
“While in Moura, the Broncos visited our Dawson mine site and spoke to our employees who run this leading operation,” Jacqui said.
Former Brisbane Broncos and Origin great Mick Hancock said he enjoyed returning to Banana Shire to catch up with the many Broncos fans and rugby league supporters.
“The Brisbane Broncos values our regional partnership with Anglo American as it provides us with the opportunity to catch up with many of the junior players across the state with a genuine passion for our great game,” he said.
