Anglo American announces $100,000 donation to CQ Rescue Helicopter Service

25 June, 2013

The Chief Executive of global miner Anglo American, Mr Mark Cutifani today visited Moranbah North mine where together with Chief Executive of Anglo American’s Metallurgical Coal business, Mr Seamus French, announced a $AUD100,000 donation to the RACQ CQ Rescue Helicopter Service.

CQ Rescue CEO, Mr Mark Shield, also travelled to Moranbah for the announcement, touching down in the rescue helicopter at the Moranbah North helipad.

Mr Cutifani, who is currently touring the Metallurgical Coal operations as part of his first visit to Australia as CEO of the Anglo American group, said he was delighted to announce the donation towards the important rescue service, which follows last year’s $70,000 donation from Anglo American.

“It’s great to be here today, meet the Moranbah North team and show our support for an important regional community service,” Mr Cutifani said.

“Last year Anglo American’s global social investment expenditure was $US154 million,” Mr Cutifani said.

“Across the group we work hard to support our local communities by directing financial support towards local projects, new facilities, education initiatives and health services in our towns and it’s fantastic to be able to continue this commitment today,” Mr Cutifani said.

CQ Rescue CEO Mark Shield said last year CQ Rescue completed 435 tasks in central Queensland communities, rescuing 375 patients requiring potentially life-saving support and speedy transportation.

“Around 46 per cent of last year’s operations were to Moranbah and Bowen Basin communities,” Mr Shield said.

“I’d like to thank Anglo American for their ongoing support of CQ Rescue and their commitment to assisting the communities they operate in.

“Major sponsorships play a vital role in our operation and we look forward to a long and continuing association between CQ Rescue and Anglo American. We are very proud to be able to provide a first rate aeromedical service for the benefit of the company, its employees and the people in this region.”

Mr French said over the past 12 months, Anglo American’s Moranbah North mine had invested $278,000 in social initiatives for Moranbah, on top of their $20 million Moranbah 2020 Fund.

“We have an annual donations program, but as well as this, we plan to deliver a broad program of social projects in Moranbah through Moranbah 2020, such as last year’s $1 million donation towards the Greg Cruikshank Aquatic Centre upgrade,” Mr French said.
