Anglo American hosts the Brisbane Broncos in Moranbah and Mackay

17 October, 2013

Anglo American will continue its proud tradition today of providing regional Queenslanders with the chance to meet some of the biggest names in rugby league following the start of a two day visit to Moranbah and Mackay.

Anglo American Branding and Events Coordinator, Jackie Noble said the most recent visit to Central Queensland by the Brisbane Broncos followed similar tours organised this year by Anglo American to Townsville, Clermont, Rockhampton, Middlemount and Warwick.

“Now into our third year as the Brisbane Broncos Regional Partner, Anglo American is excited to once again host members of the much loved Brisbane Broncos in Moranbah and Mackay over the next couple of days,” she said.

“Former Australian rugby league international Michael De Vere together with current Brisbane Broncos principal players and Origin representatives Ben Hannant and Josh McGuire will visit primary and secondary schools in both these towns to meet with local students.

“While in Moranbah, our Brisbane Broncos guests will also tour Anglo American’s $1.95 billion Grosvenor mine which is currently under construction and see firsthand the ground breaking tunnel boring machine, which will be officially launched on Monday 21 October,” said Jackie.

In addition to conducting school visits in Moranbah, the Brisbane Broncos will continue their support of grassroots junior rugby league by conducting a skills clinic at the Moranbah Miners Junior Leagues Club.

Michael De Vere said he was looking forward to returning to Central Queensland over the next two days to catch up with the many Broncos fans and rugby league supporters.

“Moranbah and Mackay are synonymous for producing some of the country’s most gifted rugby league players with the likes of Josh Hoffman, Daly Cherry-Evans and new Broncos recruit Ben Barber all calling this area home when they launched their football careers,” he said.

“The Brisbane Broncos values our regional partnership with Anglo American as it provides us with the opportunity to catch up with many of the junior players across the state who have a genuine passion for our great game,” he said.

“While in Mackay we are delighted to be returning to Josh’s former high school, Mackay State High where together with the other members of the Brisbane Broncos we will conduct a skills clinic followed by a motivational session with students focused on the importance of healthy lifestyle options and how these choices directly contribute to a personal brand,” said Michael.
