Met Coal has once again been recognised for leadership in diversity at the 2013 Resources Awards for Women (RAW), with Diversity and Inclusion Specialist Rebecca Capper announced as the joint winner of the Diversity Champion category, Callide Production Supervisor Myf Szepanowski taking out the Operator category and Exploration Manager Andrea Rutley receiving the runner up award in the Overall category at the awards breakfast on 8 March.
Seven outstanding women from Callide, Dawson, Exploration, Supply Chain and Human Resources (HR) as well as Met Coal’s Gender Diversity Action Plan initiative were nominated for this year’s awards, demonstrating the high quality candidates we have across the business and the calibre of our Met Coal women working in non-traditional roles.
Metallurgical Coal CEO Seamus French congratulated all the Met Coal nominees on their achievements.
“At this year’s RAW Awards we showed the rest of industry what we already know – we’re a business with truly talented people in a diverse range of careers across all our sites and in the Brisbane office,” Mr French said.
“I’d like to thank our award winners for the positive difference they are making at Met Coal.
“Rebecca Capper’s outstanding efforts to make diversity and inclusion a key focus for all our leaders at Met Coal will ensure we continue to grow as a business that opens its doors to all people.
“It was also wonderful to see Myf’s passion for safety and setting a positive example for new operators at Callide recognised in the operator category and Andrea Rutley’s excellent leadership highlighted in the overall category,” Mr French said.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Rebecca Capper said she was delighted to see the way women were prospering in a wide range of careers in the industry alongside their male counterparts.
“Perceptions are changing about women – and people from diverse backgrounds – in mining as we embrace a new way of thinking that ensures roles are given to the right person for the job, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs or previous experience,” Ms Capper said.
“This is a very exciting time for all companies involved in resources, as we come to realise the benefits to be gained by employing people from all walks of life.”
