Today Anglo American announced a $5000 donation to the Denman Devils football club during their annual Brisbane Broncos Regional Tour in the Hunter Valley.
For the second year in a row Anglo American has brought the Brisbane Broncos to the Hunter Valley where they have completed a two day regional schools and skills clinic tour to Muswellbrook and Denman, where today's announcement was made.
Drayton mine General Manager Clarence Robertson presented the Denman Sandy Hollow Junior Rugby League Club and winner of the 2013 NRL Grassroots Club of the Year, the 'Denman Devils', with the cheque and said Anglo American was very proud to be visiting the club with the Broncos for the first time.
“Our regional partnership with the Brisbane Broncos recognises the importance of junior rugby league and netball and we try to visit as many junior clubs while we are on our regional and league carnival tours in Queensland and the Hunter Valley," Mr Robertson said.
"Our Drayton mine employees are actively involved in this 50-year-old club and through the club’s hard work; a new multi-purpose facility will be built in the near future to accommodate their growing club.
"Like the Devils, Anglo American has a long history in the Hunter Valley, and we look forward to continuing our commitment to our local communities, local businesses and our 500 employees through our Drayton South project.
"Recognising this club and community’s commitment to growing junior rugby league, junior cricket, little athletics and other school sport, Anglo American is very pleased to donate $5,000 toward the purchase of a walk-in cool room in the new canteen when the multi-purpose facility is built.
"We are delighted to be making a contribution towards better facilities for children and volunteers of these clubs. "Volunteers, including our employees, have given up many hours of their personal time to make this club the success it has become.
"Up to 180 children use the current facility which they have outgrown, so our contribution demonstrates our commitment to this community and secure this club’s future.
"It’s an exciting new chapter for the Denman Devils and we want to be part of it," Mr Robertson said.
Broncos Game Development Manager Paul Dyer said, “In my fifteen years with the Brisbane Broncos, I have seen so many of our players come through the ranks of clubs just like the Denman Devils and we are very happy to see rugby league continue to grow in regions like the Hunter Valley".
"It’s the commitment of residents employed in industries like mining who give up their time to ensure their children have a future in junior and senior sport," Paul said.
