Drayton donates lifesaving equipment to school

22 March, 2012

Students, teachers and visitors to St Mary’s Primary School in Scone now have access to the latest in lifesaving equipment thanks to a Laerdal Heartstart defibrillator donated by Anglo American’s Drayton mine.

Drayton mine Human Resource (HR) Manager Karine Williams said St Mary’s Primary School in Scone applied for the donation as part of Drayton’s social investments and donations programme for 2012.

“Anglo American’s number one priority is safety and we are delighted to continue sharing this all important safety message with the wider community through our social investments and donations program,” Karine said.

“A heart attack victim’s chance of survival is significantly increased when a defibrillator is used,” she said.

St Mary’s Primary School Principal, Mr Chris Waters said Anglo American’s donation of the automated external defibrillator was greatly appreciated.

“Unfortunately a sudden cardiac arrest can strike anyone, at any age, at any time anywhere – often without prior warning.

“While we hope to never have to use this lifesaving machine, it’s comforting to know all St Mary’s students, teachers and visitors now have access to this equipment,” Chris said.

Australian Lifesaving Academy (NSW) Trainer, Linda Miles conducted a familiarisation and training session on the defibrillator with St Mary’s Primary School staff members.
