Anglo American this week presented a $10,000 cheque to the DeenCity Youth Group to assist in their fundraising efforts towards the construction of Aberdeen’s first skate park.
The $10,000 donation was presented at the group’s monthly general meeting by Anglo American Hunter Valley Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, Matt Frodsham, to 12-year-old Bailey Mavin, who is one of many Aberdeen youths eagerly awaiting the skate park’s construction.
“Anglo American is pleased to provide funding towards this important piece of recreational infrastructure for Aberdeen as it reflects the real needs of the local people and responds to requests made by the youth of this town,” Matt said.
In early 2011 a meeting was held with the youth of Aberdeen and the Upper Hunter Shire Council (UHSC) and a skate park facility was highlighted as a key area of interest.
“Our donation will be partnered with the Upper Hunter Shire Council’s existing funding allocation towards the project,” Matt said.
“By contributing towards this landmark facility which will be much used and loved by the local people, Anglo American is demonstrating our social commitment to our local communities and providing our support to help them achieve their goals.
“The DeenCity Youth Group will continue to fundraise for the skate park project and we look forward to them reaching their target so we can see some ‘ollies’ and ‘rail stands’ in the years ahead,” he said.
