Anglo American has presented a $1000 cheque to the Scone Scouts to help with their fundraising efforts currently underway to cover travel costs to the 2013 Australian Jamboree in Maryborough, Queensland to be held from 2 – 12 January 2013.
Scout Leader Greg Morris said fundraising activities would be underway throughout the year toensure eligible Scout members could travel to Maryborough for the Jamboree, which would seeclose to 13,000 Scouts and their leaders coming together from all parts of Australia.
“The Jamboree experience allows these young men to travel away from home to new places,develop confidence, build relationships with different people and tackle exciting newchallenges,” Greg said.
“They will also develop strong leadership skills through the activities and team buildingexercises they are presented with.
“With our members tasked with running the fundraising campaign to cover the travel costs, theyalso develop valuable life skills and come to appreciate the real value of hard work,” he said.
Drayton mine Human Resources Manager, Karine Williams, presented the Scouts with thecheque and said the donation was part of Drayton mine’s 2012 Social Investments andDonations Programme for its neighbouring Hunter Valley communities.
“Anglo American is pleased to provide funding towards the Scone Scouts’ trip to the Jamboreeas it responds to requests made by local people and provides local youths with memorable andlife changing experiences,” Karine said.
