Anglo American has brought the Brisbane Broncos back to the Banana Shire this week, with star player Corey Parker, Jordan Kahu and the Broncos Game Development Team spending time in Moura and Biloela before travelling to Gladstone as part of the Anglo American Brisbane Broncos Regional Tour Programme.
Anglo American’s regional partnership with the Brisbane Broncos aligns with the company’s priority to give back to the communities that host its operations and this was further emphasised with the latest visit coinciding with a partnership ceremony at Moura Child Care Centre commemorating Anglo American’s Dawson mine donating $100,000 towards the valuable community service.
Dawson mine General Manager, Russell Conley, joined the Bronco’s Corey Parker to unveil a plaque at the centre on Wednesday morning and meet with local youths and parents.
“Anglo American is proud to support our local communities and our $100,000 donation will help secure a vital childcare service for families in Moura,” Russell said.
“We’re also very pleased to provide local kids with the opportunity to meet some of their heroes - many are fans of the Broncos but have never had the opportunity to attend a Broncos game, let alone spend time with the players, so it’s great to see the kids light up through these experiences,” he said.
Anglo American’s community spirit was also on display in Biloela, with Corey and Jordan visiting Callide mine to join in Shave for Cure fundraising activities.
Callide mine automotive electrical apprentice and runner up in the Resources Awards for Women Tradesperson of the Year Award, Jessica Wust, was heavily involved in the fundraising efforts at Callide, teaming up with the visiting Broncos players to encourage employees to dig deep and donate to a good cause.
The regional tour moved onto Gladstone on Thursday 29 March, where the Broncos team ran an information session at Gladstone State High School for years 11 and 12, before travelling to Gladstone West State School where 200 school children participated in a skills clinic.
Broncos Game Development Manager, Paul Dyer, said the Broncos were thrilled to partner with Anglo American and visit the fans in Regional Queensland.
“Our partnership with Anglo American means we have more opportunities to visit Regional Queensland, meet the locals and teach them a few footy skills, while sending a strong message about setting personal goals, working hard and living a balanced lifestyle,” Paul said.
Next stop on the Anglo American Brisbane Broncos Regional Tour Program will be Middlemount in a few months time.
