Anglo American and BMA host the second annual Bowen Basin gala charity ball

24 October, 2012

On Saturday 20 October Anglo American and BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) hosted the Bowen Basin’s second gala charity ball in Moranbah, a star studded success that drew a crowd of more than 350 people and raised more than $43,000 for the Mater Foundation and RACQ Central Queensland Rescue.

Community members from across the Bowen Basin donned their tuxedos, ball gowns and stiletto heels to attend the circus themed event while rubbing shoulders with members of the Brisbane Broncos and enjoying entertainment from ventriloquist comedian Darren Carr and local band the Josh Geiger duo.

The night’s proceedings kicked off under the guide of MC and ex-Wallaby player Dan Crowley, and led onto the widely anticipated charity auction with many lucrative prizes on offer, like a framed signed Broncos jersey and a seven-day holiday for a group of 10 to Phuket, Thailand.

On the latest leg of the Anglo American Brisbane Broncos Regional Tour Program, Broncos players Ben Hannant and Matt Gillett and Broncos game development team members Michael De Vere and Paul Dyer met with guests, while Paul took the stage to talk about the Broncos’ commitment to regional Queensland and share some motivational tips about high performance.

BMA Head of External Affairs, Vincent Cosgrove said BMA was thrilled with the success of the sold out event, and the vital funds raised for two important local organisations.

“What a fantastic night, the Moranbah community really threw their support behind this event in aid of the Mater Foundation and CQ Rescue,” Mr Cosgrove said.

“BMA has a strong history of partnering with both of these organisations, who provide vital support for the Central Queensland region, and this event is another great example of the mining industry working hand in hand with its communities.”

Moranbah North General Manager, Glen Britton, said Anglo American was delighted to once again sponsor the charity ball, a leading event in the Moranbah community calendar that provides opportunities for local suppliers while raising funds for valued causes.

“We are proud to support initiatives that help the Moranbah township develop and create a real sense of community for local people, making Moranbah an even more enjoyable place to work and live,” Mr Britton said.

Major sponsors Anglo American and BMA would like to acknowledge Eureka Accommodation Fund, QR National, Hastings Deering, Maicon, AMC Consultants, Leightons, Workpac, Westfund, Verifact and Hatch for their sponsorship contributions that helped the event come together.
