Dawson employees go pink to support breast cancer prevention

13 November, 2012

Employees at Anglo American’s Dawson mine have draped themselves in goodwill by spending more than $2600 of their own money to purchase new pink high-visibility shirts to raise money for breast cancer research while increasing awareness about early detection and prevention.

Dawson Safety, Health and Environment Document Controller, Bec Hibble organised the health campaign to keep employees thinking about the importance of preventative health management.

More than 240 people, men and women, purchased the shirts to support this important cause, which was celebrated at a morning tea on Thursday last week.

“It’s been so fantastic to see – all the bright shirts really catch people’s eyes because they stand out next to the standard orange and blue we wear on site,” Bec said.

“It’s certainly getting people talking – which was what we set out to do.”

Employees spent more than $2618 to purchase the shirts, which will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Bec said Dawson’s next health campaign, Movember, was now underway. On-site Nurse Dave Brown has been selling shortbread biscuits in the shape of a moustache to raise funds while 10 men in the main office have started growing moustaches to raise money for prostate cancer research.
