With the NRL 2013 draw recently released, footy fans can rest a little easier knowing that their regular dose of rugby league action is just around the corner, and for footy enthusiasts in the Hunter Valley the wait is over thanks to Anglo American hosting the Brisbane Broncos in Singleton, Muswellbrook and Aberdeen this week.
Anglo American Branding and Events Coordinator, Jackie Noble said the two day tour through the Hunter Valley started in Singleton on Monday 3 December with Brisbane Broncos’ former star players Allan Langer, Michael Hancock and Michael De Vere headlining the visit to both the Singleton High School and Singleton Public School.
“Anglo American is proud to join with the Brisbane Broncos and provide students in the Hunter with the rare opportunity to discover what it is that makes the Brisbane Broncos so successful and revered across all sporting boundaries,” Jackie said.
Singleton High School Teacher Rochelle Dooley said for the past three years the school has been offering rugby league as an elective subject in Years 9 and 10 and it had developed a strong following among students.
“The students along with many of the staff are very excited to have members of the Brisbane Broncos visit our school, we are truly thankful to Anglo American for providing us with such a privileged experience to hear from these sporting greats,” said Rochelle.
With Drayton mine having a proud history of operating in the Hunter Valley for almost 30 years, Anglo American is also excited to share with its employees the chance for them to meet these former rugby league greats.
“The former Brisbane Broncos star players along with members of the Brisbane Broncos Development team will spend time meeting our Drayton employees early on Tuesday 4 December,” Jackie said.
“Following our mine visit we are off to meet up with students from Muswellbrook High School and St Joseph’s in Aberdeen where they will also have the opportunity to hear from the Brisbane Broncos, ask questions and secure an autograph, before taking part in a series of skills clinics,” she said.
Brisbane Broncos Game Development Manager, Paul Dyer said the Brisbane Broncos were excited to be partnering with Anglo American and travelling to the Hunter Valley.
“The Brisbane Broncos value our partnership with Anglo American as it enables us to travel to throughout New South Wales and Queensland to meet with our fans and share with them our skills and experiences,” he said.
