CEO of Coal South Africa
B Eng (Chemical), CEO of Bulk Commodities, with responsibility for the Group's coal and iron ore businesses. Seamus is a member of the Group Management Committee (GMC).
Seamus joined Anglo American in 2007 and held the position of CEO for Anglo American Metallurgical Coal between 2009 and 2013, and CEO of Coal until 2015.
Born and educated in Ireland, Seamus gained a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) before working in Germany for seven years. He has extensive mining experience in a range of commodities including: coal, nickel, gold, copper and uranium.
Before joining Anglo American, Seamus was Vice President Business Excellence of BHP Billiton. He has also held various positions with WMC including: Executive General Manager Copper-Uranium Business Unit, General Manager Operations Nickel Business Unit, General Manager Kwinana Nickel Refinery, General Manager St Ives Gold Mine.
Brent Waldron is the Head of Business Performance and Finance for Metallurgical Coal in July 2012. Brent has extensive corporate commercial expertise across a range of industries in New Zealand and Australia during a career in which he has held three CEO and three CFO roles in significant sized businesses. Having previously worked for Anglo American in 2009, Brent rejoined the company after spending two years in New Zealand as Chief Executive of Carters Building Supplies Merchants. Brent has held the positions of Deputy CEO and Acting CEO with Downer EDI Ltd, an ASX100 listed business.
Prior to this he was CEO of Downer’s Civil Engineering business (Works Infrastructure), CFO of New Zealand’s largest retailer, The Warehouse Group Limited and Director of Finance and Planning for Fletcher Challenge Forests. In these roles he has led significant business, cultural and financial transformations. His industry experience spans mining, industrial marketing, engineering contracting and infrastructure services, retail, forest products, banking and manufacturing. Brent is a Chartered Accountant and has a Master of Commerce degree with first class honours from the University of Auckland.
With 30 years’ experience in the petroleum and resources sectors, David initially joined Shell at its Geelong Refinery in 1978. Since that time, David has held a number of senior roles with Shell both within Australia and overseas.
David was appointed Commercial Manager to Capcoal in 1995; during this time the Shell Coal assets were sold to Anglo American in 2000 and David was appointed to the role of Commercial Manager in a Joint Venture between Shell and the Queensland Government to construct and operate the Callide Power Station in Central Queensland.
David joined Anglo American upon the completion of the Callide project and was the Global Risk and Assurance Manager before being appointed to the role of Regional Head of Human Resources in November 2007.
Glen Britton was appointed Head of Underground Operations for Anglo American’s Metallurgical Coal Business in December 2012. In his role at Metallurgical Coal, Glen is responsible for Moranbah North, Grasstree and Grosvenor Operations. Prior to this, Glen held the position of General Manager at Moranbah North Mine.
Glen was born and educated in the United Kingdom and has extensive experience in operations and management through 35 years in the mining industry. He joined Anglo American from Xstrata Coal where he held the position of Operations Manager for 8 years.
Glen is married with two children and has a passion for English cricket.
Glen joined Anglo American in the role of Head of Projects in September 2013 and is a member of the Metallurgical Coal Executive Leadership team. Prior to this Glen was employed by Glencore Xstrata Plc and Xstrata Coal as Director Projects Africa. Glen lead the management of all major projects in Coal and had responsibility for project governance for Iron Ore project developments in Africa. He was appointed Subject Matter Expert to represent and lead coal interests in the expansion of Cerrejon mine in Colombia of which Anglo American is a major shareholder.
Other significant career highlights include several senior management positions in technical, development and operations for underground and open cut operations in Coal and Vice President Projects for the Prodeco Group in Colombia. Glen is a Mining Engineer (BE Honours) having studied at the University of New South Wales and is a certified open cut and underground Mine Manager.
Julian Beere joined Anglo American Thermal Coal in South Africa in August 2010 as Head of Strategy and Business Development. Julian previously worked with BHP Billiton for eight years in Aluminium and Energy Coal in various leadership positions including Head of Development, Head of Commercial and Head of Strategy.
Appointed as Head of Strategy, Business Development and Infrastructure in Coal South Africa in 2014, Julian brings over 20 years of financial, business strategy and management experience to the business.
Julian has an MA (Hons) degree in Mathematics and Computation from Oxford University and has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales since 1997.
Julian speaks French and Italian as well as basic Arabic and Spanish.
Mark was appointed to the position of General Manager Open Cut Operations in December 2010, with responsibility for the Metallurgical Coal business’ Callide, Capcoal Open Cut, Drayton and Foxleigh operations. Mark is a Civil Engineer who started in the mining industry in the Technical Services area. He has worked for Anglo American since the acquisition of the Shell Coal assets in 2000. He has been a long standing Metallurgical Coal manager, having worked his way through to mine manager, before gaining General Manager experience at both the Callide and Drayton operations.
Mark has made a great contribution to the business during his years of service and is currently focused on replicating many of Drayton’s best practice processes and systems across the Metallurgical Coal Open Cut operations.
Nick Barlow was appointed Head of Resource Development and Operational Excellence for Anglo American’s metallurgical coal business in April 2010. Nick joined Anglo American from Rio Tinto, where he was General Manager Technical for Rio Tinto Coal Australia.
Nick has had extensive local and overseas management experience through a 25 year career with Rio Tinto including senior operational, technical and management roles in coal, gold and copper in Australia, USA, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Nick is a mining engineer and is a strong believer in leveraging off the good work that others have done and increasing collaboration across the Anglo American Group.
Rod joined Anglo American in September 2002 in the position of General Manager Marketing and Transportation, and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. Rod’s career has included executive and senior management marketing positions with a number of international resource companies in Australia, United Kingdom and the United States.
Rod has been a director on various boards including the Los Angeles Port (US), Port Waratah Coal Services Limited (Newcastle) and Newcastle Coal Shippers Pty Ltd (Newcastle), and Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd (Mackay) and Half Tide Marine Pty Ltd (Mackay). Rod is married with three children.
BSc Hons, MBL, CEO of Coal South Africa, 51;
July was appointed CEO of Coal South Africa in September 2016. Prior to that, he held the position of Executive Head of Processing at Anglo American Platinum and was employed by Anglo American subsidiaries in Zimbabwe, where he held senior managerial positions in metallurgical operations and technical services.
In 2001, he transferred to Anglo American Platinum, where he was first appointed business manager of the Polokwane Smelter, then head of process technology. July graduated in Engineering and Business Leadership from the Universities of Zimbabwe and South Africa respectively, and completed the Senior Executive Programme with Columbia Business School.
